Overnight Severe Weather Risk with Hot and Muggy Weekend Finale




Mostly clear skies early Sunday night will give way to increasing clouds late as the front pushes to our south with a piece of upper energy arriving from the northwest. This will bring increased chances for scattered showers and storms on Monday with the potential for some of those to turn severe. 

We’ll enjoy one more day above average near 90 before cooler air arrives with an upper trough dropping out of Canada. Highs will top out around 80 on Tuesday before temperatures fall into the 70s both Wednesday and Thursday.

 High pressure will be moving in from the northwest, providing a very nice stretch of days for outdoor activities next week as sunny weather prevails with comfortable humidity. The trough will exit by Friday as an upper ridge continues to amplify over the Western United States. This should help warm temperatures back into the seasonable 80s through next weekend.

  Severe Thunderstorms Cause Major Flooding and Multiple Water Rescues in Kansas City Metro Thunderstorms hit Kansas City on Monday, bringing almost seven inches of rain in six hours. The southern part of Kansas City got the most rain, with 6.62 inches recorded near 87th Lane and Mill Creek in Lenexa.  Due to the heavy rain, the weather service issued several flash flood warnings. The rain caused creeks to overflow and streets to flood. Some drivers got stuck and had to be rescued. For example, on East 99th Street near Indian Creek, a car was found empty when rescue crews arrived, according to Michael Hopkins from the Kansas City Fire Department. In Overland Park, several intersections were closed due to flooding but later reopened.
